Definition & Registration Criteria / 定義・登録基準
Nature Assetとは、自然に関する記録・観察・研究のうち、単なる記録を超えて、独立した保存・研究・文化・教育その他の価値を持つと22degreesが認識し、資産として定義・登録した対象をいう。
Nature Archiveに収録された写真、観察記録、定点記録、自然現象等は、それ自体ではNature Assetとはならない。
それらの蓄積・観察・研究を通じて独立した価値が認識され、個別の対象として定義されたものをNature Assetとして登録する。
基本原則：
Nature Archive = Record / 記録
Nature Asset = Defined Value / 定義された価値
したがって、Nature Archiveへの収録数とNature Assetへの登録数は一致する必要はない。

Finger Lime — First Fruiting Record

Finger limes have been cultivated in the Chiba Satoyama for approximately three years and have now entered their fourth growing year.
A total of 19 trees representing 19 different varieties are currently being cultivated.
The condition of some trees declined due to insufficient winter management. However, careful and regular management from spring onward resulted in flowering and fruit set across most of the finger lime varieties.
This fruit was harvested on July 31, 2026.
Finger lime is characterized by small, translucent juice vesicles resembling pearls or caviar. Its distinctive appearance makes it particularly suitable as a garnish for dishes such as meat cuisine and for use with beverages including champagne.
Two photographic records are preserved together: one documenting the harvested fruit and its internal structure, and another documenting fruit growing on the tree.

千葉の里山で約3年間栽培を続け、4年目を迎えたフィンガーライムの記録。
現在、19品種19本を栽培している。
冬季の管理が十分ではなかったため、一部の樹木では状態の低下が見られたが、春以降、継続的に管理を行った結果、多くの品種で開花し、結実を確認することができた。
写真の果実は2026年7月31日に収穫したもの。
フィンガーライムは、果実内部に小さな粒状の果肉を持つ特徴的な柑橘類で、その美しい外観から、肉料理の付け合わせやシャンパンなどにも利用される。
今回は、収穫した果実とその内部構造を記録した写真、および樹上で結実している状態を記録した写真の2点を保存する。

This kiwi fruit grows on a mature female vine at the Preservation House in Chiba Satoyama.
The exact age of the vine is unknown. However, it has existed at this old house for many years and is regarded as one of the long-established plants that have lived alongside the house and its surrounding environment.
Originally, male and female kiwi vines grew at the site. During a period of extreme summer heat and very limited rainfall, the established male vine died.
Fruit production subsequently declined, and the fruit that developed remained very small.
As a response, a new young male kiwi vine was introduced and planted. When the new male vine flowered, pollination was carried out manually to encourage fruit set on the established female vine.
Because kiwi flowers remain open for only a relatively short period, the timing of pollination is important. Although only part of the intended pollination work could be completed in 2026, fruit set was successfully achieved.
The photograph taken on July 15, 2026 records the developing fruit on the established female vine.
As of August 21, 2026, more than half of the developing fruit can still be observed growing to a substantial size.
During 2026, the growing environment was also improved by constructing and extending supporting structures that allow the vigorous vines and leaves to spread more appropriately. The growing space for both the established female vine and the newly planted male vine was reorganized to support their future development.
Further photographs and observations will be added as the vines continue to grow.

千葉の里山にあるPreservation Houseで長年育ってきたキウイフルーツの雌木と、その果実の記録。
このキウイの正確な樹齢は不明である。しかし、この古民家とその周辺環境の中で長年生き続けてきた植物の一つであり、家とともに時間を重ねてきた存在として記録する。
もともと、この場所にはキウイの雄木と雌木が存在していた。
しかし、夏の厳しい暑さと少雨の環境の中で、従来の雄木が枯死した。その後、結実状態が悪化し、前年には実っても非常に小さな果実が多く見られた。
その対策として新しい若い雄木を購入して植栽した。新しい雄木が開花した時期に、既存の雌木への受粉作業を行い、結実を促した。
キウイの花が咲いている期間は短く、適切な時期に受粉することが重要である。2026年は予定していた受粉作業の一部しか実施できなかったものの、結実を確認することができた。
写真は2026年7月15日、既存の雌木に成長している果実を撮影したもの。
2026年8月21日現在も観察を継続しており、半数以上の果実が一定以上の大きさまで成長していることを確認している。
また2026年には、伸長するつるや葉が十分に展開できるよう、新たに棚を整備した。既存の雌木と新しく植えた雄木の双方が今後成長できるよう、生育環境そのものを整えている。
今後も樹木の成長、開花、受粉、結実、果実の成長、収穫について継続的に記録する。

This photograph was taken in Okinawa on July 20, 2010.
It preserves a moment in a richly colored coral reef environment encountered in the sea of Okinawa.
Over many years, I have visited Okinawa Island and its surrounding islands many times—perhaps close to one hundred journeys in total.
Through those experiences, I encountered coral reefs, countless fish, plankton, sea turtles, and occasionally manta rays.
The sea and nature of Okinawa gave me enormous energy. Looking back, I feel that these encounters with nature became part of the experiences through which I grew into the person I am today.
This photograph is therefore more than a visual record of coral.
It is a record of a particular place, a particular natural environment, and a particular moment in my life.
I do not know what condition this exact coral reef is in today, and I may never be able to return to the same place.
Looking at this photograph again many years later makes me realize how irreplaceable that moment was.
I feel both happiness and deep gratitude for having experienced it.
Nature creates experiences that can enrich a human life and sometimes influence the course of that life.
The ocean, coral reefs, marine life, light, color, and movement that I encountered in Okinawa became part of my own accumulated experience.
I may not be able to experience the sea in exactly the same way again.
But I still hope that someday I will encounter nature with that same sense of discovery once more.

2010年7月20日、沖縄の海で撮影したサンゴ礁の記録。
私はこれまで、沖縄本島や離島を何度も訪れてきた。おそらく、その回数は100回近くになる。
沖縄の海では、数多くのサンゴ礁や魚たち、プランクトン、海亀、そして時にはマンタにも出会った。
そうした海と自然から、私はたくさんのエネルギーをもらってきた。そして振り返ってみると、その一つ一つの自然との体験が、現在の自分へと成長していく過程の一部になっていたように感じる。
この写真も、その大切な記憶と記録の一枚である。
現在、この場所のサンゴ礁がどのような状態にあるのかは分からない。そして、私自身も再びまったく同じ場所を訪れることはできないかもしれない。
だからこそ、2010年7月20日のこの瞬間が、かけがえのない時間だったのだと、今あらためて感じている。
この写真を見返すと、心が揺れる。
そして、この自然に出会えたことへの幸せと感謝を感じる。
海やサンゴ礁をはじめ、自然が生み出すものは、人に豊かな体験を与え、ときにはその人の人生そのものにも影響を与えていく。
沖縄の自然から受け取った数多くの体験も、私の人生の中に蓄積されている。
同じ体験をもう一度できるかは分からない。
それでも、いつの日か、また新しい自然と出会い、そんな経験を積み重ねたいと思う。
また会いましょう。
