Vocalizationとは何か
“Vocalization”は、一般に「発声」「声による表現」を意味する言葉です。
重要なのは、この言葉が必ずしも言語としてのSpeechだけを意味するものではないことです。
人間の発話だけではなく、笑い、ため息、叫び、感情を伴う声、乳児の発声、そして動物の鳴き声など、言語情報だけでは捉えきれない幅広い音声表現を研究する際にも、“vocalization”という言葉が使用されています。

What Does “Vocalization” Mean?
“Vocalization” generally refers to the production of vocal sounds or expression through the voice.
What makes the term particularly significant is that it is not necessarily limited to linguistic speech.
It can also be used in the study of a broad range of vocal expressions that cannot be fully described as language alone, including laughter, sighs, cries, screams, emotionally expressive sounds, infant vocalizations, and animal calls.
22degrees sees this breadth as an important area of research in the age of AI.
Vocalization and AI Are Already Beginning to Converge

Beyond Adult Human Speech

In developmental research, machine-learning techniques are being used to detect and analyze infant vocalizations from long-duration home audio recordings, including distinctions between distress and nondistress vocalizations and the vocal responses of caregivers.
AI is therefore beginning to make it possible to study infant vocal behavior at scales that would be difficult to achieve through manual analysis alone.

These forms of vocal expression are natural components of human communication.
