■ 導入目的
本設備は、世界に通用するデジタルデザインミュージアムを構築するための第一世代公式撮影システムとして導入した。
本プロジェクトは、単に作品を撮影・公開することを目的とするものではない。イームズのアームシェルチェアをはじめとするデザイン資産、建築、いけばな、文化資料などを、実物に忠実なデジタルマスターとして長期保存し、その文化的・学術的価値を未来へ継承することを目的としている。
特に本プロジェクトでは、「保存価値」を最も重要な理念の一つと位置付けている。作品そのものを保存することに加え、その状態や情報を高精度なデジタルデータとして記録・保存することで、実物とデジタルの双方を文化資産として未来へ受け継ぐことを目指す。
撮影データは100年後、すなわち22世紀においても活用可能な知識資産となることを前提に保存・管理し、世界中の研究者、美術館、修復家、コレクター、教育機関が参照可能な知識基盤（Knowledge Infrastructure）の構築を目指す。
本設備は、その知識基盤を形成する最初の中核設備として位置付ける。

※購入価格は内部管理資料に記録し、本公開記録では省略する。
■ 今後の運用方針
・RAWデータをデジタルマスターとして永久保存する。
・公開画像はマスターデータから用途に応じて作成する。
・撮影データは複数媒体へバックアップし、長期保存を前提とした管理を行う。
・撮影環境、照明、色管理、撮影標準（Museum Capture Standard）を段階的に整備し、学術利用にも耐えうる記録品質を目指す。
■ 本設備によって実現すること
本設備により、作品を「鑑賞するための写真」ではなく、「100年後、22世紀にも価値を持つ知識資産」として記録・保存する基盤が整う。
実物の保存価値とデジタルの保存価値を一体として育て、時間の経過とともに文化的・学術的価値が蓄積されるデジタルデザインミュージアムを構築していく。
