OM (22degrees Origin Museum) is not a conventional museum created simply to display furniture or explain the history of Eames design.

It is an independent digital museum dedicated to the long-term preservation, research, and interpretation of the origins of Eames design through original objects, material evidence, structural details, and Human-People Experience.

At the heart of this museum is the Zenith Arm Shell Chair – Salmon Pink, positioned as the principal preserved object for exploring the relationships between fiberglass, color, light, surface, perception, and Human-People Experience.

The Leg Splint is positioned as a historical origin point in the development of Eames design. It represents an important stage at which material experimentation, functional necessity, wartime innovation, and design thinking converged. Preserving and studying this historical origin is regarded as an essential foundation of this museum.

However, the purpose of this museum extends beyond preserving original objects or documenting their history.

This museum values the interaction between the inherent qualities of original Eames design and the experiential value expressed through 22degrees by means of photography, music, Preservation Assets, and scholarly interpretation.

Through this encounter, visitors are invited to discover new perspectives, new meanings, and new Human-People Experiences. Rather than presenting a single conclusion, the museum welcomes multiple perceptions and interpretations shaped by each visitor’s own knowledge, experience, and sensibility.

It is hoped that every visit to OM (22degrees Origin Museum) may become the beginning of a new discovery, a new experience, or a new way of seeing design, and that these experiences may, in some small way, contribute to enriching people’s lives.

The philosophy of this museum is expressed through the HXIN Perspectives.

HXIN Perspectives

1. Original Design
   Respecting the intrinsic value of the original design itself.
2. Preservation
   Preserving and passing forward not only the original object, but also its history, provenance, materiality, and experiential value.
3. Perception & Interpretation
   Respecting individual perception while embracing diverse interpretations and the possibility of new meanings.
4. Human-People Experience
   Understanding design not merely as an object of observation, but as an experience that enriches people’s lives.
5. Experience Expansion
   Encouraging experiences to generate new discoveries, dialogue, creativity, and shared inspiration across people.
6. Continuity
   Ensuring that experiential value continues to evolve and be passed from generation to generation.

OM (22degrees Origin Museum) aspires for the original value of Eames design and the new experiential value created through 22degrees to resonate together, allowing experiences, discoveries, and interpretations to continue expanding across people and generations while contributing to richer lives and enduring into the future.

OM（22degrees Origin Museum）は、家具を展示するための一般的なミュージアムではなく、イームズデザインの歴史や作品を単に紹介することを目的とした場所でもありません。

このミュージアムは、保存されたオリジナルの実物、素材の痕跡、構造的な細部、そしてそこから生まれるHuman-People Experienceを通じて、イームズデザインのOriginを考察し、新たな体験価値を未来へ継承していくための独立したデジタル研究・保存ミュージアムです。

その中心に位置するのは、Zenith Arm Shell Chair – Salmon Pinkです。この個体は、ファイバーグラスという素材、色彩、光、表面、質感、知覚、そして人とデザインとの関係を考察するための中核的な保存対象として位置づけています。

一方、Leg Splintは、イームズデザインの歴史的Originの一つとして位置づけています。そこには、素材実験、機能、戦時下の必要性、そしてデザイン思想が交差した重要な歴史的段階が残されています。このミュージアムでは、その歴史的な位置づけを尊重しながら保存・研究を行っています。

しかし、このミュージアムが目指しているものは、オリジナルを保存し、その歴史を記録することだけではありません。

保存されたオリジナルのEamesデザインそのものが持つ価値と、22degreesが写真、音楽、考察、Preservation Assetsなどを通じて表現する体験価値、その二つが重なり合うことによって、新しいHuman-People Experienceが生まれることを大切にしています。

このミュージアムを訪れた人それぞれが、オリジナルのデザインと22degrees独自の表現、その双方を体験することによって、新しい視点や発見、新しい意味、そして新しい体験価値を見いだすことを願っています。

その解釈は一つではなく、それぞれの知識、経験、感性によって、多様な認識や価値が生まれることも、このミュージアムの大切な考え方の一つです。

また、その体験が一人ひとりの人生をより豊かにする小さなきっかけとなり、その人からまた別の誰かへと体験が広がっていくことも願っています。

このミュージアムでは、その思想をHXIN Perspectivesという六つの視点によって表現しています。

   オリジナルデザインそのものが持つ本来の価値を尊重すること。

   実物だけではなく、その背景、来歴、素材性、時間の積み重ね、そして体験価値を未来へ保存・継承すること。

   一つの正解を示すのではなく、人それぞれの認識や知覚を尊重し、多様な解釈や新しい意味が生まれる可能性を大切にすること。
4. Human-People Experience
   デザインを単なる鑑賞対象ではなく、人々の人生を豊かにする体験として捉えること。

   一つの体験が、新しい発見や対話、創造へと広がり、人から人へ循環していくこと。
6. Continuity
   体験価値が時間や世代を越えて持続し、未来へ受け継がれていくこと。

22 degrees Origin Museum（OM）は、事業の開始以来、歴史的デザイン資料および保存個体の取得、保存、研究、記録、デジタルアーカイブの公開を継続してきました。

これらの活動と並行して、OMの長期的な持続可能性と将来的な事業展開についても、継続的に検討を重ねてきました。

今回、2026年10月13日時点における22 degreesの基本的な考え方と、これまで検討してきた収益モデルの方向性を整理し、現段階の事業構想として公開することとしました。

OMは、文化的・歴史的価値を持つデザイン資料を長期的に保存し、その研究成果を広く社会に公開することを基本方針としています。

これらの活動を継続するためには、保存個体の適切な保管環境の維持、経年劣化への対応、調査・研究、記録・公開などに、継続的な費用と資源が必要となります。

そのため、OMの活動を長期にわたって維持し、個々の保存資料を将来へと継承していくためには、安定した収益を生み出す仕組みを構築することが重要であり、必要であると考えています。

こうした認識のもと、OMでは保存・研究・公開という基本的な活動と両立し得る、将来的な収益化の可能性について、複数の事業モデルを検討しています。

現在検討している事業モデル

• 保存個体の高解像度写真の利用ライセンス販売
• 個体別研究資料およびデジタルレポートの有料提供
• 専門的なデジタルアーカイブへの有料アクセス
• デジタル写真集および研究出版物の販売
• 出版・展示・映像等におけるオリジナル写真の利用許諾
• Preservation Houseと連携した展示・体験事業の可能性

これらは現時点における検討対象であり、実施や導入を決定したものではありません。今後、事業環境、技術的な実現可能性、利用者の需要、運営上の負担、経済的な合理性などを踏まえ、段階的に調査・検証を進めながら、各事業モデルの導入可能性を検討していきます。

OMは、歴史的デザイン資料の保存・研究・公開を活動の中心に据え、その成果を社会と共有しながら、保存活動を支える持続可能な経済的基盤の形成を目指していきます。

Since its establishment, 22 degrees Origin Museum (OM) has continuously engaged in the acquisition, preservation, research, documentation, and digital archiving of historically significant design objects and materials.

Alongside these activities, 22 degrees has consistently explored the long-term sustainability of OM and the possibilities for its future business development.

As of October 13, 2026, we have decided to organize and publicly share our current thinking and the potential revenue models we have been considering over time. This document represents our perspective and business considerations at this stage.

OM’s fundamental mission is to preserve design objects and materials of cultural and historical significance over the long term and to make the findings of its research accessible to a wider public.

Continuing these activities requires ongoing financial resources for maintaining appropriate preservation environments, addressing material deterioration, conducting research, documenting individual objects, and maintaining public access to the digital archive.

For this reason, we believe that establishing a stable and sustainable source of revenue is both important and necessary to support OM’s continued activities and to ensure the long-term preservation of each object for future generations.

With this understanding, OM has been exploring several potential revenue models that could complement its core activities of preservation, research, and public access.

Business Models Currently Under Consideration

• Licensing of original high-resolution photographs of preserved objects
• Paid access to individual object research reports and digital documentation
• Subscription-based or other paid access to specialized digital archive resources
• Publication and sale of digital photography collections and research publications
• Licensing of original photographs for publications, exhibitions, films, and other media
• Potential exhibition and experiential programs in collaboration with Preservation House

These business models are currently under consideration, and no decisions have been made regarding their implementation or introduction.

Moving forward, we will continue to explore their feasibility through a gradual process of research, evaluation, and verification, taking into account market conditions, technological possibilities, user demand, operational requirements, and economic viability.

OM will continue to place the preservation, research, and public documentation of historically significant design objects at the center of its activities.

By sharing the results of these efforts with the wider public, we aim to explore ways of establishing a sustainable economic foundation that can support the continued preservation of these objects and the long-term development of OM.
