22degrees Origin Museum、「OM-LAX-003」のPhotographic Documentationを公開

― Zenith Arm Shell Chair – Salmon Pink

22degrees Origin Museum Publishes Photographic Documentation for “OM-LAX-003”
— Preserving the Zenith Arm Shell Chair – Salmon Pink through 291 Primary Photographic Records —

22degrees Origin Museum (OM) has published Final Master Edition Version 1.0 of the Photographic Documentation (PD) for the “Zenith Arm Shell Chair – Salmon Pink (OM-LAX-003)” on September 23, 2026.

The PD systematically documents the physical object through photography and preserves its visual condition at the time of documentation as a body of primary photographic evidence.

The record comprises 291 JPEG photographs taken on August 11, 2026, individually identified as P001 through P291.

The photographic coverage includes overall views of the object, the shell, interior and exterior surfaces, side profiles, Rope Edge, Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) surfaces, Shock Mounts, base, Glides, labels, manufacturing markings, and localized surface changes.

The photographs are organized according to documented areas and photographic subjects, while the Full Photo Register and Photo Plates preserve the relationship between individual Photo IDs and their original image files.

The PD is principally concerned with recording visual facts directly observable in the photographs. It does not attempt to determine, through inference alone, the causes, material characteristics, or deterioration mechanisms associated with visible surface changes.

Detailed research concerning light transmission, color, dimensions, and other data obtained directly from the physical object is maintained separately from the PD and will be addressed within the Object Research Data (ORD).

Within the OM research documentation framework, OPR, ADR, PD, and ORD serve distinct functions: preservation documentation, acquisition decision records, primary photographic evidence, and research data obtained directly from the physical object. Together, they form an interconnected research record that can support future reference, comparison, and verification.

With the publication of this PD, OM-LAX-003 now has publicly available documentation covering the acquisition decision through the ADR, its post-acquisition preservation condition through the OPR, and its visual primary evidence through 291 photographs in the PD.

The photographic record will be maintained as a visual baseline for continuing object research and future ORD work, and as a long-term preservation research resource for subsequent observation, comparison, and verification.

Announcement of Publication

Zenith Arm Shell Chair – Salmon Pink

Collection ID: OM-LAX-003
Core Collection No.: SP-01
Model Designation: LAX

22degrees Origin Museum (OM) announces the publication of
Object Preservation Record (OPR) Public Version 1.0
for the preserved object
“Zenith Arm Shell Chair – Salmon Pink (OM-LAX-003).”

This OPR documents the post-acquisition physical condition of OM-LAX-003
based on direct observation of the actual object.

It records the shell, base, labels, individual components,
age-related changes, and current preservation condition,
and establishes a baseline for future preservation,
comparison, and research.

The object consists primarily of a Salmon Pink fiberglass arm shell.

A label remains on the underside of the shell bearing references to
Herman Miller Furniture Company,
Charles Eames,
and Zenith Plastics Co.

A Rope Edge is also visible around the shell perimeter.

The underside includes four Shock Mounts,
together with a low Rod X-base and Glides.

The present OPR is based in part on a current-condition photographic survey
conducted on September 12, 2026.

The record includes documentation of:

  • Overall form from the front, rear, and oblique views
  • Entire shell underside and base configuration
  • Zenith Plastics / Herman Miller label
  • Four Shock Mounts
  • Two crack-like localized surface changes observed in the forward area of the shell
  • Representative areas of the Rope Edge
  • Four Glides
  • Overall X-base
  • Surface corrosion, age-related changes, and welded areas of the base
  • Surface characteristics and visible fiber structure of the Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP)

Particular care has been taken not to overstate the condition or historical interpretation
of the object.

Information directly observable from the physical object and photographs
is distinguished from acquisition documentation,
third-party statements,
and matters that remain unverified.

Items that cannot presently be established with sufficient certainty,
including the exact manufacturing date,
past repair or replacement history,
and the historical pairing of the shell and base,
are not filled in by assumption
and are retained as unverified or unknown where appropriate.

This OPR has a different role from the
Acquisition Decision Record (ADR).

The ADR records
why this particular object was investigated,
compared with other examples,
and ultimately selected for acquisition and preservation.

The OPR records
the physical condition of the object after acquisition,
what can presently be observed,
and which areas should continue to be monitored and preserved over time.

OM will continue periodic observation and photographic documentation
of this object.

If changes are identified in the future,
they will be recorded in a form that allows comparison
with earlier preservation records and photographic baselines.

This Public Version is derived from the
Object Preservation Record – Internal Preservation Edition
maintained by OM.

Personal information,
acquisition prices,
detailed storage information,
and other non-public administrative information
have been excluded from this version.

Information considered important to the research,
physical understanding,
and preservation of the object
has been retained wherever possible.

22degrees Origin Museum (OM) regards preservation
as extending beyond the continued physical existence of an object.

The documentation of its condition,
construction,
materials,
physical traces,
and age-related changes at a specific point in time
forms an essential part of preservation itself,
allowing future comparison, verification, and research.

Acquisition Decision Record

PUBLICATION NOTICE

Zenith Arm Shell Chair – Salmon Pink
Collection ID: OM-LAX-003
Core Collection No.: SP-01
Model Designation: LAX

22degrees Origin Museum (OM) publishes Public Version 1.1 of the Acquisition Decision Record (ADR) for the “Zenith Arm Shell Chair – Salmon Pink (OM-LAX-003),” preserved in the museum collection.

This ADR records the decision-making process through which OM-LAX-003 was investigated, compared with other objects, and ultimately selected for acquisition and long-term preservation.

The record traces the research background to an encounter with and lived experience of an Eames Arm Shell Chair in Okinawa in 2017. It then documents the comparative research undertaken from late 2025, direct object observations in early 2026, specialist-dealer research, market comparisons, pre-acquisition visual research, the acquisition on March 28, 2026, physical receipt on April 3, 2026, and subsequent post-acquisition observations.

PUBLICATION SCOPE

Public Version 1.1 presents the principal research history, comparative observations, chronology, acquisition and receipt records, post-acquisition verification, and the evidentiary framework relevant to the acquisition decision.

The edition also integrates additional comparative research records dated March 19, March 24, and March 27, 2026, together with transaction documentation dated March 28, 2026, strengthening the documented continuity of evidence leading to the acquisition decision.

Personal names, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, payment information, acquisition price, staff information, information that would unnecessarily identify third parties, and original images of private transaction records are excluded from the public edition.

RESEARCH POSITION

OM-LAX-003 is preserved not merely as a single vintage chair.

It is positioned as one of the core preserved research objects through which the museum can continue to observe and compare the material qualities of fiberglass, manufacturing traces, Rope Edge construction, Shock Mounts, labels, bases, color, aging, use-wear, and preservation condition.

The ADR records why an object was investigated and why the decision was made to acquire it.

Its role is distinct from the OPR, which records object registration, provenance, condition, and preservation information; Photographic Documentation, which preserves primary visual evidence; and the ORD, which records primary research data obtained directly from the physical object, including measurements, materials, structure, and surface characteristics.

This public record establishes a research reference point based on the evidence and observations currently available.

If additional information becomes verifiable through new documentation, comparative research, or further examination of the physical object, the record may be updated while clearly identifying the evidentiary status of any new information.
